Prize for best MSc thesis 2024 awarded to Erik Sandertun Røed

The University Board recently awarded the annual prize for best thesis 2024 to Erik Sandertun Røed for his thesis titled “Evaluating genetic tools to inform conservation efforts for the nationally red-listed European lobster (Homarus gammarus).”

Erik’s project was supervised by CIGENE’s Marie Saitou, as well as Louise Chavarie (MINA). The European lobster is red-listed in Norway (i.e. identified as threatened with extinction) due to a worrying decline in the population. In his master’s thesis, Erik evaluated the use of two new genetic methods and assessed their potential to help monitor lobster populations in Norway.

The best thesis prize includes a monetary award of NOK 25,000, and after the summer, Erik will present his thesis to NMBU’s Education Committee. CIGENE congratulates Erik on a great project and for producing an excellent thesis.
