Today we received the great news that the European Commission will start grant preparation for the Horizon 2020 project AQUA-FAANG – Advancing European Aquaculture by Genome Functional Annotation.

Professor Sigbjørn Lien
Sigbjørn Lien, head of CIGENE, will be the coordinator of the project, with support from Daniel Macqueen from University of Edinburgh. The consortium consist of 24 partners from nine European countries and represent both academia and industry. Start date is some time before summer 2019 and the project will run for four years.
The overall objective of AQUA-FAANG is to generate genome-wide functional annotation maps for the six commercially most important fish species within European aquaculture and exploit their contribution to variation in traits of commercial relevance, focusing on improved resistance to disease (see abstract).
