Congratulations to Matthew Kent from CIGENE, who was recently promoted to Professor at NMBU.

Matthew joined NMBU over 20 years ago and has been an integral member of CIGENE throughout the centre’s lifespan. His research activities span a range of genomic sub-disciplines and techniques, with a recent focus on long-read nanopore sequencing, high-throughput genotyping, functional genomics and CRISPR screening. These activities have driven advances in many research projects and produced a large number of impactful publications during Matthew’s NMBU career.

Matthew has also been responsible for a range of teaching courses at NMBU and supervised many PhD students through their doctoral work. The Professorship is well deserved and we at CIGENE congratulate him on this achievement.

On Wednesday March 4th, BIOVIT held a seminar ‘Two New Profesors’ to mark the occasion, where both Matthew and Årshild Ergon – another BIOVIT researcher promoted to Professor – both delivered presentations on their career journeys to Professor. Matthew stressed the importance of embracing new technologies instead of relying on the old familiar techniques; we look forward to seeing what the next chapter brings in Professor Kent’s research career.
