The 76th Annual Meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) took place at the end of August 2025 (25th-29th). Many NMBU employees attended the conference in Innsbruk, Austria, including Dag Inge Våge, Thea Johanna Hettasch, and Joe Robertson from CIGENE.
The annual EAAP meetings bring together researchers from across Europe working at the forefront of animal science. The overarching theme for this year’s conference was “future-proofing livestock farming”, which saw the inclusion of interesting sessions discussing how to recruit the best talent and students to animal sciences, and how to bridge the gap between academics performing fundamental research and industry driving applications of that knowledge. CIGENE colleagues attended and contributed to sessions on ‘the future of EU breeding sector’ and ‘European research infrastructures to support livestock science: whom and how?’.
Thea Johanna Hettasch also delivered a presentation as part of the session on genomic applications, titled “Constructing haplotype-separated assemblies for Norwegian Red cattle” (see picture above). This covered Thea’s work as part of the Rumigen Horizon Europe project, which you can read more about on the project website.
